I have been in EXACLTY the same situation. Word for word. I eventually decided to go cold turkey on him and just not contact him again after one day when he really hurt me by having sex with someone else in a pseudo-relationship when I thought we were making progress. Admittedly, I have a bad temper and I never thought to hold my tongue when I was angry around him.
